PHOTOS: Long Bay Reopens with Brand-New TifEagle Greens

Long Bay Golf Club, the Grand Strand’s north end member of the Jack Nicklaus signature course tandem, reopened Monday with brand-new greens that are already a hit with those who’ve played them this week, and are primed and ready to welcome fall season golfers.

The greens here now feature TifEagle bermudagrass, an ultradwarf strain that’s especially conducive to providing smooth, fast putting surfaces. And as one of the older strains of bermudagrass among an extensive line of possibilities, TifEagle has proven to be most resistant to mutations which, in turn, will ensure that golfers can expect more consistency here over a longer timeframe.

In the process of installing the new greens, Long Bay has reclaimed more than 44,000 square feet of putting surface in addition to the 66,000 square feet they boasted in May before closing for renovations – a whopping two-thirds increase in space to accept your approach shots.
