Rivers Edge Named Among World’s Top Riverfront Courses

No. 9 (“Arnie’s Revenge”) at Rivers Edge

The North Strand’s Arnold Palmer signature design has garnered its share of critical acclaim and can now include a worldwide distinction to its list of accolades, as LINKS Magazine has selected Rivers Edge Golf Club in Shallotte, N.C. among its eight choices of “Best Riverfront Golf Courses Around the World.

Rivers Edge was chosen alongside global elite courses offering stunning riverfront views “that lure you into decisions your handicap can’t justify, then the course makes sure you pay for them.

“Sometimes the reward is a shorter approach. More often, it’s a funny story.”

LINKS Magazine’s Megan Dresser describes Rivers Edge as a course “that threads through marshland and tidal creeks along the Shallotte River in coastal North Carolina, near the South Carolina border. The signature moment is the par-five 9th, fittingly named ‘Arnie’s Revenge,’ with almost no margin for error, and one Palmer himself reportedly couldn’t reach in two when he came back to try.

“The river frames the closing holes on both nines, and it’s the rare round that feels like a full day out rather than just 18 holes—the kind of place you finish with lunch overlooking the water and a drink or two that follows.”

In earning its LINKS Magazine honor, Rivers Edge joins select company with such renowned designs as Adare Manor Golf Club (Limerick, Ireland), Blackwolf Run’s River Course (Kohler, Wis.), Crosswater Club (Bend, Ore.), Fairmont Banff Springs Golf Course (Banff, Alberta, Canada), Gamble Sands (Brewster, Wash.), Kingsmill’s River Course (Williamsburg, Va.) and Lajitas Golf Resort’s Black Jack’s Crossing (Rio Grande, Tex.).
