Unique qualifying event offers spot in inaugural Myrtle Beach Classic
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Myrtle Beach Classic will attract PGA TOUR players from across the globe, but the first step on the road to the tournament will have a decidedly local flavor.
Golf Tourism Solutions will be hosting an 18-hole tournament for eligible, Myrtle Beach-area PGA professionals on Monday, February 19 at Wachesaw Plantation East, with the winner securing a spot in the “The Q at Myrtle Beach.”
A 16-man, 18-hole event featuring eight of golf’s most prominent YouTube creators and eight aspiring PGA TOUR players, the winner of ‘The Q’ will receive a sponsor’s exemption into the inaugural Myrtle Beach Classic.
“In professional golf, it has often been said that one week can change a person’s life, and we want to extend that opportunity to our local PGA professionals,” said Kyle Oland, director of marketing for Golf Tourism Solutions, the agency responsible for promoting Myrtle Beach as a golf destination. “Excitement is building around the Myrtle Beach Classic, and the first shot on the road to the event will be struck Monday at Wachesaw Plantation East, and we couldn’t be more excited.”
More than 50 PGA pros have signed up for the event, which will be contested on a Clyde Johnston design that is no stranger to high stakes tournaments. Wachesaw hosted four LPGA tournaments in the 1990s, and the layout will identify a local pro who is ready to compete for a spot in the Myrtle Beach Classic.
‘The Q’ will be played March 4 at TPC Myrtle Beach in an event that will be closed to the public. A 90-minute video covering the tournament will be released on Play Golf Myrtle Beach’s YouTube page on April 23, and the creators will be posting content on their channels, chronicling their experiences as well.
The Myrtle Beach Classic, a dual field event, will be played May 6-12, 2024, at the famed Dunes Golf & Beach Club.
