Rymer Bites: Young Guns, British Open Teaser & Tahoe

This week, Charlie checks in from a popular Grand Strand seafood shop to offer his take on the PGA TOUR’s newest competitors making a big splash, John Rahm’s victory in Ireland and what it means for the British Open, and more.

Charlie Rymer coming to you this morning from one of my favorite spots. I’m just outside of Harrelson’s Seafood Market right here in beautiful Murrells Inlet, South Carolina. I’m about to go in and grab me a bunch of shrimp. I got 14 of my closest friends coming over for a little Lowcountry Boil tonight! As you can see, I had a nice time with the 4th (of July) off. We’re going to keep it rolling right on through Monday night.

But right now, I want to talk to you about a little bit about the golf that we saw over the weekend. How about these young guys, Viktor Hovland, Collin Morikawa and Matthew Wolff? Man, they are turning the professional golf on its head right now! And I’ve got to tell you, it’s all Jordan Spieth’s fault – because he came right out of college and started playing some unbelievable golf. These young guys saw this, and they thought “If Jordan Spieth can do it, I can do it.” Man, are they going out and doing it!

Pretty impressive … Let me rephrase that, incredibly impressive … to see what Matthew Wolff did yesterday: eagle on the last hole to get his first win on the PGA TOUR as a non-member. Are you kidding me? Going to be interesting to see what these three young players do moving forward.

I also want to talk to you a little bit about what happened at one of my favorite golf courses in the world over in Ireland, Lahinch. John Rahm, who’s had a lot of top tens this year, finally found his way back into the winner’s circle. There’s nothing that gets you ready better than playing links golf for the British Open. John Rahm now, I think, is one of the top two or three favorites for the British Open that we’re going to see in Northern Ireland here next week. Can’t wait for that.

Folks, enjoy your week. I know I will. I’m headed out to Lake Tahoe to cover the American Century Celebrity Championship for NBC Sports. I’ve got a couple of things to look for there. Big predictions: Charles Barkley will finish last. That’s great news for Larry the Cable Guy. That means he will not finish last!

I’ll catch up with you right here next Monday with an update on that American Century Celebrity Championship!
