Nearly 400 golfers from throughout the country kicked off a full-field event today with the first round of the 2020 Veterans Golf Classic Presented by PGA TOUR Superstore. Now in its 21st year, this event is being hosted on 12 Myrtle Beach-area golf courses.
We kick off our event coverage with opening-round photos from an ideal course to celebrate it: Whispering Pines, built on the site of the former Myrtle Beach Air Force Base and dedicated a quarter century ago to the men and women of the United States Armed Forces to honor the sacrifices they’ve made to protect our freedoms.
The Veterans Golf Classic is a two-person team event flighted into four groups based on team handicap. Each flight plays a different course each of the three days, with Wild Wing, River Hills and Man O' War joining Whispering Pines in hosting Monday’s rounds being played in a best-ball format. Round 2 scramble-format play takes place Tuesday at Rivers Edge, River Club, The Witch and Shaftesbury Glen, with final-round, modified alternate shot action on Wednesday set for Blackmoor, Long Bay, Burning Ridge and International Club.
