Video Spotlight: Possum Trot

Embark on a whirlwind video journey and hole-by-hole photo tour of one of the North Strand’s friendliest designs: Possum Trot Golf Course, a true “core golf” experience as it was meant to be.

North Myrtle Beach continues to boast some of the best beaches, entertainment, boating and, of course, golf on the Grand Strand. And Possum Trot Golf Course is situated in the heart of North Myrtle Beach, right off Highway 17 with a longstanding history since opening in 1968.

This classic layout features many doglegs framed by tall Carolina pines that place a premium on accuracy off the tee, to be well positioned for the players’ approach shots. Like most courses born from golf’s golden era, the greens at Possum Trot are relatively small with Tifdwarf Bermuda putting surfaces rolling smooth and true all year long.

While there aren’t many hazards, three of the four par 3s do have water in play including the picturesque 13th, with water short and left of the entire green. A defining feature at Possum Trot is the absence of any homes on all 18 holes … a true ‘core golf’ experience as it was meant to be. The signature 18th is a demanding finishing hole offering a great ‘risk-reward’ for the longer players to reach this par 5 in two – though not without peril, with a peninsular green protected by water and surrounding bunkers.

Regarded as the area’s best value by locals, Possum Trot Golf Course evokes nostalgia from decades past with a time-tested design offering an enjoyable experience for players of all abilities.
