The Legends Resort of Myrtle Beach, SC has been one of the pillars of Myrtle Beach golf for many years. A self-contained golf oasis, it boasts three 18-hole courses, a 35-acre, lighted practice range and an acre-and-a-half putting green. Not to mention the Scottish style clubhouse that dominates the landscape. In this edition of The Myrtle Beach Golf Buzz, Blair O'Neal visits the facility, and finds out the real history of this Myrtle Beach tradition.

Hi, I’m Blair

The Members Club at Grande Dunes has been one of the most sought after Myrtle Beach golf tee times since the course opened in 2005. For much of its young life, the Members Club was exclusively private but it’s now open to some public play for visitors on a golf package.

As a result, the seven-year-old layout is brand new to the vast majority of Myrtle Beach golfers. With that in mind, we present five things you need to know about the Nick Price design.

1. The course was designed

Dave Genevro, General Manager of Barefoot Resort talks about the layout, and how it stacks up against other courses.

“The course is a Pete Dye design. Known, of the four courses on site, probably as one of the toughest courses,” says Genevro. Lion’s Paw was the first Big Cat at Ocean Ridge Plantation and over the years two of its fellow felines – Tiger’s Eye and Leopard’s Chase – have come to be regarded as among the best Myrtle Beach golf courses. While its younger littermates attract attention, Lion’s Paw is, in some regards, still the king of jungle at Ocean Ridge.

The Heathland Course at Legends Resort is smack in the middle of Myrtle Beach, but it’s easy to see why visitors have visions of the other side of the Atlantic Ocean.
