More than 3,200 golfers from all 50 states and 17 countries have descended upon the Grand Strand this weekend, in preparation for the 40th Annual PlayGolfMyrtleBeach.com World Amateur Handicap Championship! Arriving competitors were in great spirits, in anticipation of teeing it up for first-round action Monday at the largest, most fun and most valuable golf tournament on the planet.

Golf in Myrtle Beach has been riding a high for some time now. A lot of changes and big initiatives are happening throughout the market, it’s almost hard to keep up with it all. It’s TOUR Championship Week, and as the FedExCup season draws to a close next door in Georgia Charlie Rymer’s approaching the final leg of filming for his latest video series, “Breaking Par.” Each occasion has stirred up fond then-and-now memories, both of East Lake and his college golf days in Myrtle Beach. The 40^th Annual PlayGolfMyrtleBeach.com World Amateur Handicap Championship kicks off this weekend with player registration at each of the Grand Strand’s PGA TOUR Superstore locations in Myrtle Beach and North Myrtle Beach. Sunday was a landmark day for two former winners of the Dustin Johnson World Junior Golf Championship Presented by LA Golf, as one picked up her first LPGA Tour victory while another joined Tiger Woods as the only two golfers in history to achieve a significant USGA milestone.

Long Bay Golf Club, the Grand Strand’s north end member of the Jack Nicklaus signature course tandem, reopened Monday with brand-new greens that are already a hit with those who’ve played them this week, and are primed and ready to welcome fall season golfers.
