Tucked away unto itself with nothing but peaceful farmland and Carolina pines abound, Shaftesbury Glen Golf & Fish Club remains a coveted golf experience here on the Grand Strand.

Adjacent to the Waccamaw River, this Clyde Johnston design evokes visuals drawn from Winged Foot with an Old English style of play. Reminiscent of older, classic venues such as Winged Foot, these large, rectangular tees remind players of these classic designs from the likes of A.W. Tillinghast and Donald Ross. Since opening in 2001, Shaftesbury Glen has drawn industry superlatives for a playability unique all unto itself, with ample opportunities to “tee it high … and let it fly …” to generous fairways and inviting risk-reward par fives.

A just recently completed renovation on nine of the holes has also drawn positive reviews. Holes 2, 3, 12 and 13 run parallel to one another, and are now connected with an expansive sandy waste area that creates a stark contrast between each fairway and surrounding sandy bunkering. Perhaps of equal appeal for golfers are the A-1 bent grass greens that provide arguably the truest putting surfaces on the Grand Strand. Indeed a rare offering nowadays in Myrtle Beach, these putting surfaces are simply spectacular and offer golfers the opportunity to “putt like a pro” on these slick, elevated greens.

Home to the South Carolina Golf Center located on the range, golfers can book a lesson with the resident PGA professional … and even stay on property just steps away in the Shaftesbury suites above the clubhouse. Named the 2009 Golf Course of the Year by the Myrtle Beach Golf Course Owners Association, Shaftesbury Glen continues to offer one of the area’s best values and experiences.

With recent renovations now complete, Shaftesbury Glen continues to raise the bar and provide players a memorable golf experience worth returning to year after year – all peacefully tucked away, surrounded by timberland and farmland just minutes from Myrtle Beach in Conway, South Carolina.
