In this installment of the Myrtle Beach Golf Buzz, host Blair O’Neal visits one of the area’s best and most scenic restaurants, Gulfstream Café. Located in Garden City, Gulfstream Café is the only Grand Strand restaurant that offers a view of the Atlantic Ocean on one side and the Intracoastal Waterway on the other. The view is stunning and so is the food. Gulfstream, which features an upstairs bar and deck that are great places to watch the sunset, specializes in seafood, including a fresh catch of the day, jumbo lump crab cakes and more. Enjoy your visit.
Blair O'Neal: Hello, I'm Blair O'Neal, host of the Myrtle Beach Golf Buzz. Today I'm at the Gulfstream Cafe in Garden City. Joining me is Roseanne Handelsman, Operating Partner. Roseanne, thanks so much for having the Golf Buzz here today.
Roseanne Handelsman: Thank you.
Blair: Can you tell us a little bit about Gulfstream Cafe?
Roseanne: Yes, of course. We are located in Garden City, 2-1/2 miles south of the Garden City Pier. We open at 4 p.m. daily and we specialize in creative fresh seafood and steaks.
Blair: And this is the place to see beautiful sunsets? Roseanne: Absolutely. Every night we get all this and the sunset. Blair: Well I love it because there are romantic views here, right? Roseanne: Absolutely.
Blair: Okay. So our golfers coming off the course, there are a lot of golf courses in the area,
Roseanne: Mm-hmm.
Blair: So, centrally located. They can go play, come here, have some great food. Now can you tell me a little bit about the dishes in front of us? Are these some of the most popular dishes on the menu?
Roseanne: Absolutely. Starting off with our crab cakes, here. Gulfstream Cafe is known for our lump crab cakes. There are no fillers in our crab cakes so you are getting a real taste of lump crab meat.
Blair: Okay. The real deal.
Roseanne: Yes, the real deal, for sure. We have our broiled lobster tails. Most lobster tail is an eight ounce lobster tail and you can it like this, or stuffed with crab meat for an additional price. It's amazing and we can also do two lobster tails on one plate.
Blair: It looks amazing.
Roseanne: Thank you. The Seafood Cioppino dinner is a hearty dish made with Marinara sauce, linguini pasta and then it is topped with all the seafood that you see here; clams, mussels, fresh fish and shrimp. And then, to the right we have the Grouper Français. Two grouper medallions dipped in a parmesan cheese batter, sautéed and then topped with a lemon butter sauce. And as you can see, our mashed potatoes on this plate here are “made-with-love’ love mashed potatoes. They are made fresh every day with garlic, butter and cream. They are delicious, fluffy and white always.
Blair: That sounds right up my alley. Roseanne: And then, our green beans are also local fresh cut green beans that are seasoned. Blair: And what about the shooters over here?
Roseanne: That's our most fun and popular appetizer on our menu. Blair: All right. Roseanne: It's a fresh shucked oyster, pepper vodka, and then it's topped with cocktail sauce.
Blair: Nice! Sounds very good. So after you get off the golf course, bring your foursome here, have a couple of oyster shooters, right?
Roseanne: Absolutely. Blair: Now what about the drink here? I've heard that you guys have something special here, a delicious bar of . . . ? Roseanne: Bloody Mary's.
Blair: Okay. Roseanne: On Sundays for brunch, we feature a build-your-own Bloody Mary bar. This is our BLT Bloody Mary. As you can see, a huge lettuce leaf, bacon, and a tomato. With our Bloody Mary Bar, you can also add items such as Slim Jims, blue cheese crumbles, pickled okra, green beans. Anything you could think of to put in a Bloody Mary, it is pretty much offered on our Bloody Mary Bar.
Blair: So along with the Bloody Mary Bar on Sunday, I hear you guys have a great brunch as well.
Roseanne: Absolutely. We feature a brunch buffet and we also have a menu. The most popular item ordered is our Alaskan King Crab omelet.
Blair: Okay.
Roseanne: It's a three egg omelet with sautéed red and green peppers, stuffed with mozzarella, cheddar cheese and Alaskan King crab meat. Then it's topped off with a Blue Crab cream sauce.
Blair: Oh, that sounds very good. I might have to come back and try that one. Roseanne: We'd love to have you come back and try that. Blair: What about any special events that you have going on here?
Roseanne: We have all kinds of events going on here at different times of the year. We have a Facebook page if you want to keep up with all of our events. We have seasonal oysters. We also offer live music during the season. From May through September we have live music on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. So you can hang out here and enjoy a few drinks before you come in for dinner. We also do large parties here at the restaurant. We can do a customized menu for your group.
Blair: Okay. Roseanne: We can do parties for a group in the daytime such as a business group holding a meeting. We do small weddings, rehearsal dinners, bridal showers, baby showers. You name it, it can be done here at the restaurant, either privately or while we are open for business. Blair: Do our viewers need to make a reservation?
Roseanne: Yes. Reservations are recommended for 6 p.m. and later.
Blair: Okay. Sounds great. Thanks so much for having us today, Roseanne.
Roseanne: Thanks for being here Blair. Blair: I'm Blair O'Neal and thanks for watching the Golf Buzz. Make sure to check out the Gulfstream Cafe.
