Myrtle Beach Golf Hole of the Week: No. 17 at The Wizard

June 5, 2017

the 17th hole at the Wizard is our myrtle beach golf hole of the weekHe succeeded in a big way with The Wizard, a Dan Maples design that features many of the traits associated with links golf: wide fairways framed by soaring mounds, natural vegetation, large greens and, of course, stacked sod bunkers.

There is hardly a tree to be found at the Wizard and the greens are open in the front, which allows golfers to play the creative game that so many enjoy.

But Pardue, wanting to make sure he kept the attention of visiting golfers, made sure The Wizard wasn’t strictly a links course. The layout closes with three holes that resemble a more parkland style design.

On a course that provides a taste of Scotland, our Myrtle Beach Golf Hole of the Week features a uniquely American design trait: the island green.

No. 17
Par:
3
Yardage: 180 yards (championship tees), 155 yards (regular tees), 138 yards (middle tees), 116 yards (forward tees)
Handicap: 16

The penultimate hole plays from elevated tee boxes and while there is an island green, there is ample room to find dry land. But there is also plenty of water to clear.

To find success, you have to relax and trust your swing. Do those two things and your chances of making par are pretty good. That being said, be wary of the wind, which can substantially impact club selection and the difficulty of the hole.

The 17th isn’t complicated but it’s scenic, completely different than any other hole on the course, and one you won’t forget.
