Having issues finding the short grass off the tee? Scott Tanguay of the Coastal Golf Academy in Myrtle Beach, S.C. is here to show you that it’s not just about clubbing down: ball position in your stance is critical here as well. Check it out!
Scott Tanguay:
Hey guys. Scott Tanguay here at the Coastal Golf Academy. Today we’re going to talk about finding the fairway. If you’re struggling off the tee, driver’s not working good that day, try and make sure you hit that fairway by dialing it back. I’ve got my 3-iron here, kind of a driving iron. I’m going to take that because it’s got a little more loft on it so I can control it more. And we’re going to lower the ball flight. If you hit it up high, that leaves more bad things that could happen. So if we lower the ball flight, we take less club, we’re going to find that fairway a lot easier.
Most important thing here is we’re going to want to move that ball position back a little. Instead of having it maybe a little bit more towards that lead foot, we’re going to get this thing back in the middle, I’m going to really make sure that I get that handle forward and hit down on it. And I think the most important thing when you’re trying to flight it down and find the fairway is to cut off that finish. We’re not trying to go super high and up around the corner here. We’re going to want to stop a little bit, more controlled like that. That’s going to help lower the ball flight, keep it in play. Should look a little something like this. All right, give that a try!
