TPC of Myrtle Beach: Fazio’s first Myrtle Beach golf course opened to rave reviews in 1999 and has only gotten better. One of only three 5-star courses in the Carolinas, TPC of Myrtle Beach hosted the 2000 Senior Tour Championship, an event won by Tom Watson.

TPC provides players a Tour-quality environment every day. The greens are often elevated and surrounded by bunkers, and the price for missing a green is often a trip to a bunker or a swale five feet below the putting surface.

The importance of hitting and holding the greens also places a premium on being good off the tee. The fairways at TPC are lined with pine trees but they are sufficiently generous.

Fazio created four set of tees at TPC and while it’s cliché to say make sure to play from the proper set, it’s true.

Fazio Course at Barefoot Resort: The layout features more than 90 bunkers and water on 16 of 18 holes, giving players plenty to look at it. While water is everywhere, it often only comes into play on the worst of shots. The bunkers are much more penal, factoring into almost every shot. Waste bunkers, pot bunkers, fairway and greenside bunkers, Fazio has them all.

The course isn’t exceedingly long, but the fairways are narrow in spots and the bunkers punish wayward shots, making it difficult to reach the green in regulation. The course’s layout rewards accuracy off the tee and demands a precision iron game into greens that have considerable undulation.

Both of Fazio’s Myrtle Beach golf courses can comfortably take their spot alongside the best courses in the area and the nation.
