As most golf courses throughout the Southeast region offer great playing conditions in the winter and early spring months through a “contouring” effect (green fairways, greens and tee boxes, producing a visual contrast with dormant Bermudagrass rough), 19 Myrtle Beach-area designs have taken the extra step to “Go Green” in 2019-2020.

The world’s top junior golfers are set to square off Feb. 28 – March 1, 2020 at the 5th Annual Dustin Johnson World Junior Golf Championship at TPC Myrtle Beach. With past fields representing as many as 35 states and 12 countries, the strength of the 2020 edition of the Dustin Johnson World Junior once more reflects a formidable worldwide base of contenders.

Today’s visit to the archives takes us back to May 31, 1948, where in this photo we see a meeting taking place at Chapin’s Cabin to organize the corporation for building what would soon become the Grand Strand’s most renowned golf venue, The Dunes Golf & Beach Club.

Two Grand Strand golf instructors, Allen Terrell and Meredith Kirk, have been named by Golf Digest among South Carolina’s honorees in its “Best Teachers in Your State” list for 2019-2020.

In the buildup to this year’s event we got some insight on what went into it, and why the head pros from Pine Lakes, Legends Golf Club and Long Bay Golf Club have been involved. From the depths of a life-threatening ordeal that required seven surgeries in nine months and dozens of rounds of radiation treatment, Hugh Royer III rose from his cancer battle to return to the golf scene in 2019 – including as a competitor, where the former PGA TOUR player took part in multiple senior tour events including the U.S. Senior Open Qualifier.

On or off the golf course, Paige Spiranac knows how to attract attention. So it was no surprise to us that when we released Paige’s photo gallery and essay on this topic, the clicks, shares and retweets soared.

The grand opening of the Dustin Johnson Golf School in February 2019 saw the learning center’s namesake, PGA TOUR star Dustin Johnson, in attendance for the ribbon cutting. As DJ went on to another successful year on TOUR in 2019, his golf school would go on to garner two elite distinctions.

Two of golf’s fastest-rising young stars, Akshay Bhatia and Alexa Pano, announced their presence on the global stage in resounding fashion this year in winning one of golf’s premier junior tourneys at TPC Myrtle Beach.
