At this time last year, we were just announcing the addition of one of golf media’s biggest names to Myrtle Beach golf’s ongoing promotional efforts. A year later, Charlie Rymer hasn’t just hit the ground running, he’s blazed a red-hot trail in the process.

As 2019 draws to a close, we look back now on the year’s biggest stories in Myrtle Beach golf. And we lead off with two of sports and entertainment’s biggest names, as Dustin Johnson and Hootie & the Blowfish took their rightful place in February 2019 as the newest inductees into the Myrtle Beach Golf Hall of Fame to kick off what would become a highlight-reel year for each.

Las fall golf’s all-time greatest player, Jack Nicklaus, returned to the Myrtle Beach area for the first time in three decades to visit his very first signature design along the Grand Strand at Pawleys Plantation Golf & Country Club, which “The Golden Bear” built and opened up 31 years ago. While the scenes and images from that day in 2018 were memorable, we’re pleased here to reminisce a bit on Mr. Nicklaus’ time here in 1988.

Project Golf, a Myrtle Beach-based initiative dedicated to growing the game of golf by increasing access to facilities and quality instruction, has received a $25,000 donation from the Heritage Classic Foundation, a 501 (c)(3) not-for-profit that is the host organization for the PGA TOUR’s RBC Heritage Presented by Boeing.

Golf courses throughout the Grand Strand are lending a helping hand this holiday season to benefit those less fortunate. Here are but a few initiatives currently underway, with more information on how you can get involved.

They’re not college football experts, but the guys on our content team love the game as much as anyone. Paige Spiranac ran into world-renowned swing instructor Michael Breed during her visit to the Dustin Johnson Golf School’s grand opening earlier this year, where she asked Michael for some simple guidance for average golfers looking to improve their game without overhauling their swing.
