Golfweek Magazine has unveiled its annual list of Golfweek’s Best: State-by-State Courses You Can Play, and the Myrtle Beach area once again dominated the ranking of golf-rich South Carolina’s top public layouts. 

In the mid-1980s Myrtle Beach was still an emerging golf destination and the idea of the South Strand had yet to take hold. But River Club, which opened in 1985, was the second course to open in Pawleys Island and helped launch the area to prominence.

Spring is on the immediate horizon here in Myrtle Beach, meaning golf courses will be full and one of the one of the game’s bugaboos – pace of play – will move to the forefront for to many players.

The 22nd annual Hootie & the Blowfish Monday After the Masters Celebrity Pro-Am will again attract a plethora of sports and entertainment legends to Myrtle Beach, including a couple high profile newcomers.

The inaugural Dustin Johnson World Junior Golf Championship crowned its first victors Monday, and the boys and girls winners emerged in completely different ways on a cool, damp day at TPC Myrtle Beach. 

The inaugural Dustin Johnson World Junior Golf Championship is in the books, and two worthy champions were crowned. Blake Taylor aided by consecutive birdies on the 12th and 13th holes completed a wire-to-wire win in the boys division, while Delaney Shah overcame a nine-stroke deficity to triumph on the girls side. 

The second round of the Dustin Johnson World Junior Golf Championship is in the books. On a blustery day in Myrtle Beach, Blake Taylor and Zhu Wenqi created some separation and will take three-shot leads in to Monday's final round. Enjoy a round 2 photo gallery. 

The opening round of the inaugural Dustin World Junior Golf Championship is in the books. Atkinson, N.C.'s Blake Taylor shot an impressive 2-under par 70 at TPC Myrtle Beach to lead the boys division by a stroke while Anika Dy of Traverse City, Mich., and Kathleen Sumner of Charleston are tied atop the girls leaderboard with a pair of 75s. Ocean Ridge Plantation is the home of the Big Cats, and it was the opening of Tiger’s Eye that brought national acclaim to this Myrtle Beach golf facility and architect Tim Cate. 

The second annual Myrtle Beach Preseason Classic enjoyed great golf and even better weather, highlighted by 70 degree temperatures and an abundance of sunshine. 

Sandpiper Bay Golf & Country Club has long been known for its playability and quality course conditions. What the layout will never be known for is resting on its considerable laurels.

Day 2 at the second annual Myrtle Beach Preseason Classic again featured picturesque weather and great golf. 

The first round of the Myrtle Beach Preseason Classic greeted players with near perfect weather as it was 70 degrees with hardly a cloud in the sky.
