Golf Channel’s Matt Ginella revealed his list of America’s top 50 public courses on the network’s popular Morning Drive program, and three Myrtle Beach golf courses were among his best.

Golf Channel travel guru Matt Ginella began unveiling his list of America’s top 50 public courses today on Morning Drive, the network’s popular morning show, and one of our favorites has already made the cut.

The opening round of the Myrtle Beach Fall Classic teed off this morning, and the tournament participants enjoyed sunny skies and idyllic fall temperatures. More than 300 golfers from 30 states, Bermuda, Italy and Canada are in town for the 72-hole event, which will feature a different format of play each day. 

More than the name has changed at the General James Hackler Course at Coastal Carolina (formerly known as Quail Creek). With new greens and 60 fewer bunkers, the layout received a facelift over the summer. The routing of the course remains much the same, but architect Craig Schreiner made substantive changes to a few holes. We asked head pro Chuck Johns for his insight into the course’s three best holes and he provided an insider’s account of the golf vacation favorite. No.
