This year, the PlayGolfMyrtleBeach.com World Amateur is following three golfers as they pair up with top golf instructors from across the country to improve their game leading up to the event. Gene Chiarella, from Myrtle Beach, S.C., is an 11-year veteran of the World Am and is training with Allen Terrell, swing coach for Dustin Johnson and the director of coaching at the Dustin Johnson Golf School, to improve his golf game. More than 120 players from 14 states teed it up today at Rivers Edge Golf Club to kick off the 2019 Calabash Cup, a two-person, 54-hole competition held at three North Strand designs this weekend.

Derek Watson, PGA Professional at Pawleys Plantation Golf & Country Club, fired a tournament-low 65 Thursday – including three consecutive birdies on the finishing holes at Grande Dunes Resort Course – to rally for the win at the 68^th PlayGolfMyrtleBeach.com South Carolina Open.

With the publication’s announcement of its 2019-2020 honorees, The Dunes Golf & Beach Club (No. 16) and Caledonia Golf & Fish Club (No. 22) return to the list as two of only five public access courses statewide to be included.
